Interesting. I have the Collector's CDROM, and all it required (i have Win XP) was to activate the "Run in compatibility mode for Windows 95" and it works fine! --206.172.191.59 15:10, 1 July 2006 (EDT)

What are your system specs? I just tried compatibility mode on my system here and sound doesn't work. And as stated in the article, adding VDMSound into the mix to get sound working makes the game choppy and makes svga not work.--FlameHead 20:19, 1 July 2006 (EDT)
I'm not sure what system specs you're talking about (yes, i'm a techie-n00b :) ), but i have a Celeron D, 2.80 Ghz, 512 RAM, with XP service Pack 2. My question for you is, are you using the actual "Collector's CD-ROM", because that's what i'm using. --216.209.112.190 15:20, 2 July 2006 (EDT)
Yeah that's what I've got here. The main issue is really wether or not you have sound running and what sound card are you using? --FlameHead 12:44, 3 July 2006 (EDT)
Sound works fine! I have a "Realtek AC'97 Audio" sound card. --216.209.112.37 12:43, 5 July 2006 (EDT)
How do you get it to detect? what settings?--220.233.22.207 01:50, 6 July 2006 (EDT)
Sorry, but i'm not quite sure what you mean. --216.209.112.61 12:43, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
Well when you install that game you go through a setup section to detect your soundcard. If you don't go through this process then you don't get sound. However, it's obviously a very old method to access your sound card (directly via IRQs). How did you get your modern onboard sound to detect?--220.233.22.207 14:21, 11 July 2006 (EDT)
As well as i can remember, i just installed it normally, and then went to properties, and checked "Run in compatibility mode for Windows 95". --216.209.140.31 19:55, 14 August 2006 (EDT)
The article explains how to get the DOS Version of Tie Fighter to run. I have two versions of the Collector's CDROM, one is for the DOS version and one is for the Windows 95 version (TIE95). The Windows one is better but the music isn't dynamic, just a looping track which is the same one used in X-wing vs. Tie Fighter. --150.101.170.124 03:52, 23 October 2006 (EDT)

direct 3D for TIE

hey, i'm having problems getting the TIE CD to run on windows XP on a Dell labtop

i know the manufactuer says laptops may experience difficulties, i'm wondering if the bug can be fixed

when i clicked "play Tie fighter" i keep getting the same prompt saying need to install direct x5.2, i have directx9 right now.

when i click install, it takes me to another prompt window, and says my direct3D is not installed, while everything else checks out.

my labtop runs on a mobility radeon 9000 and it's running on the latest ATI drivers (open GL/direct3D enabled). I'm wondering if there's anything that we can do to resolve this issue. Thanks!!

Which Tie Fighter are you using? Because other than tie fighter vs x-wing, i'm unaware of a tie fighter version that uses direct3d, but I'm Interested. FlameHead 220.233.22.207 23:19, 4 September 2006 (EDT)
Something is wrong with the launcher when used with Windows XP. Simply navigate to the folder where you installed Tie Fighter, e.g. C:\Program Files\LucasArts\TIE95 and then execute TIE95.EXE directly. If it crashes and sends you back to the desktop enable compatibility mode for Windows 95 through properties of that file.

Problem with Installation in DosBox

Hi there! I did like recommended in the article, mounted the drives in DosBox and startet die install. There i've been told that i can't install it from a Hard Drive, i have to use the CD. Did someone else discover this problem? Could you help me? Thanks.

I had the same problem, I tried for a long time to get it to work and I couldn't. Then i realised i had tie95 (not tie fighter collecters cd-rom)and found a patch from lucas arts to get it to work. installed that and it worked fine in windows (running xp, sp1)
