Dell 2405FPW vs. 2407FPW
From WikiTechia
From the spec sheet, there aren't many differences between the two big 24" LCDs, but it's a big investment and they are both available to purchase, so around many forums out there, people have been posing the question Dell 2405FPW vs. 2407FPW?
Spec Sheets
| Model | 2405FPW | 2407FPW |
| Monitor Size | 24" | 24" |
| Optimal Resolution | 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz | 1920 x 1200 @ 60 Hz |
| Pixel Pitch | 0.27mm | 0.27mm |
| Response time (black to white) | 16ms | 16ms |
| Response time (grey to grey) | 12ms | 6ms |
| Brightness | 500 cd/m^2 Typical | 450cd/m^2 Typical |
| Contrast Ratio | 1000:1 | 1000:1 |
| HDCP Support | No | Yes (over DVI) |
| Viewing Angle | 178° typical | 178° typical |
| VESA Wall Mount | 100mm | 100mm |
So from the specs there are only a few changes, brightness, HDCP support and response time. Bare in mind though that these are only spec sheet differences, actual differences may be different, I've yet to see a comparitive review.
Colour Banding
One issue that's been raised is colour reproduction, the following images display the problem with the 2407FPW. The issue is colour banding over the DVI connection (VGA doesn't seem to be effected) and although it's not bad enough to represent a serious problem, it is just curious as to why it would not at least be as good as the previous model.
Dell have done their best about fixing the problem as of writing, 2407FPWs being shipped now, A02 revisions, have significantly reduced the banding issue if the colour mode on the screen is set to Desktop, however it is still seen and is reduced by using VGA.
